ALFRED POLIZZOTTO III: The main concerns of most matrimonial clients are, first, the children and dealing with all the issues that pertain to the children--child support, custody, visitation. The second most common concern is dealing with money issues, both distribution of the actual property and alimony issues or maintenance as it's now known.
Main focus in all custody cases is the best interests of the children. It's the standard that the courts use. And it's also the standard that we use because, literally, it is the most important thing, what is best for the children that are involved in this horrific litigation.
On a personal level, having gone through a divorce myself, I understand how important it is to keep the children out of the fray. You want and I certainly wanted the children to be as insulated from any of the disputes that I was undergoing. And I try to impart that to my clients as well.
The ultimate goal is to make sure that the clients get their fair share of the marital assets, get their fair share of the marital income, and to make sure that the children are cared for appropriately, quickly, and with the least amount of pain possible.
